Chelsea School District – Beach Middle School
Beach Middle School was dealing with a number of security and functionality issues after the addition of a pool in 1974. The main office was located in the center of the building, making it impossible to create a secure entrance. The parent drop-off site was congested, blocking the flow of traffic and compromising the safety of students and parents, both in their vehicles and on foot. With these issues and others in mind, reconfiguration was imperative to properly accommodate their students.
- A new canopy, signage, and an outdoor seating area for students was created.
- The main entrance and administration office were moved from the middle of the school to the front of the building and a new secure entrance was added.
- Reconfiguration of existing roadway with added parking for visitors, parents, and pool users. All done for safe circulation on site.
- New elevator to provide ADA access to multiple levels.
- New STEAM and Art Lab suite in former Home Ec spaces.
- Upgrades to the Cafetorium Stage, including a new sound system and curtains.
- New professional collaboration space remodeling in the former office area.
- Remodeling and site work completed in a short summertime frame to avoid conflicts with staff and students.
- New LED lighting throughout the remainder of the building.
- ADA and finish upgrades throughout the building.
