Kentwood Public Schools – Elementary Playground
Kentwood Schools was looking to provide equity between all 11 of its neighborhood elementary schools, Hamilton Elementary and Early Childhood Center. Brookwood and Hamilton elementary schools received additions to create separate gymnasium and cafeteria spaces. New playgrounds were also designed adjacent to the new spaces.
- Direct gym-to-playground supporting indoor/outdoor PE reducing transition time
- Natural light in gyms for health indoor–outdoor connection
- Outdoor dining and amphitheater seating for play and instruction
- Age-appropriate play zones (PreK–5)
- Perimeter walks for access and surfacing control
- Hard-surface play areas (basketball, four square, motor skills)
- Open green space for field activities
- ADA-compliant, safe, accessible equipment and surfaces
- Proper storm drainage
- Redesigned Hamilton courtyard for low maintenance, added windows for natural light
