Eaton Rapids Teen Space — Designed by Kingscott Associates. A community‑driven environment supporting teens with flexible spaces for connection, creativity, and growth.

In Eaton Rapids, a new kind of learning environment is redefining how communities support their youth. The Eaton Rapids Teen Space, designed by Kingscott Associates, provides a dedicated space for students in grades 6–12 to connect, learn, and grow beyond the school day. Strategically located across from the school campus, the center offers easy access while creating a clear distinction from the traditional classroom - delivering a space that feels both supportive and uniquely its own

A Community-Driven Vision

The Teen Space was made possible through a combination of public investment and strong community support, led by the Eaton Rapids Community Alliance. From the beginning, the vision was clear: create a safe, welcoming place where teens could spend time after school and throughout the summer - building relationships, developing skills, and simply being themselves. As a result, this bright, welcoming space is poised to become a go-to destination for local teens, offering consistency, support, and a strong sense of belonging.

Designed With Teens in Mind

Student input played a critical role in shaping the design. Teens expressed a desire for a space that didn’t feel like school, leading to an environment that is flexible, welcoming, and adaptable.

The center features:

  • Dedicated hangout areas for social connection
  • A kitchen that supports programming and shared experiences
  • Flexible, multi-purpose spaces with room to grow

The goal was simple: create a place that inspires connection, creativity, and purpose - without feeling like school. The result is an environment where students feel ownership, comfort, and pride.

Supporting the Whole Student

The Teen Space extends learning beyond the classroom through programming that supports both academic and personal growth. From homework help and mentorship to hands-on activities, the space encourages students to explore interests, build confidence, and develop life skills. By providing a structured yet flexible environment, the center reinforces that meaningful learning and connection can happen anywhere.

A Model for Community Impact

At approximately $3 million, the Eaton Rapids Teen Space represents a meaningful investment in the future of the community. More than a facility, it reflects what’s possible when vision, partnership, and purpose align.

Senior Design Architect Sarah Haselschwardt shared, “The original board members for the Eaton Rapids Community Alliance are the people who hired us and inspired us to do our best work. They are long-time community members with a vision to create a place for middle and high school teens to go during summer break and after school; a place where they could create, socialize, laugh, and be fed in a safe environment. They were determined to give kids the best they possibly could and to get the best out of everyone involved. It was easy to get on board with their mission and dream big. This is a success story for every small town and every community.”
