Detroit Public Schools Community District’s Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy (PRMX) groundbreaking ceremony

Kingscott is proud to announce the recent groundbreaking of the future home of Detroit Public Schools Community District’s Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy (PRMX) – a 70,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Pre-K–8 facility rooted in culture, history, and community.

As the first publicly funded African-centered school in the nation, PRMX’s new facility has been thoughtfully designed to honor African heritage and celebrate Black excellence. The building incorporates Adinkra symbols, references to Black historic figures, and a bold, expressive material palette rich in color and texture – creating a learning environment that reflects the school’s identity and values.

This project is a key component of DPSCD’s Facilities Master Plan, a long-term investment in rebuilding and strengthening schools across the district. Kingscott is honored to support this work and contribute to the district’s commitment to rebuilding schools brick by brick.

The project holds special meaning for our team, with several Kingscott staff members living in the surrounding neighborhood and having a personal connection to the community PRMX serves. We are proud to partner on a facility that is designed not only to support learning, but to uplift identity, pride, and belonging.

We look forward to seeing the new Paul Robeson Malcolm X Academy play a pivotal role in advancing the school’s powerful message: “On time, on task, and on a mission for a quality education – by any means necessary.”
